Loss ratios at several Azerbaijani compulsory motor insurers exceed 100%
Nine-month 2026 reports show loss ratios above 100% at several Azerbaijani compulsory motor insurance providers, with Qala Sığorta recording the highest figure.
The loss ratio, calculated under Central Bank rules based on payouts, reserves and expenses, indicates that costs exceeded collected premiums when above 100%. As of 30 September 2026, Qala Sığorta's ratio stood at 118.86%, Azərbaycan Sənaye Sığorta's at 117.22%, PAŞA Sığorta's at 115.4%, Meqa Sığorta's at 106.77%, and Atəşgah's at 101.27%. Nationwide, compulsory motor insurance premiums grew 12.5% to 151.59 million manats in January-September, while payouts rose 20.6% to 119.38 million manats. PAŞA Sığorta remains market leader with a 50% share, while Atəşgah's share rose to 25.7%. In April, AtaSığorta's license was revoked and its contracts transferred to Atəşgah. Recent years have seen changes to tariff calculation rules, introduction of an «insurance history coefficient» system, and the inclusion of mopeds under compulsory coverage from July.
